How Bridge The Digital Divide collects, holds, uses, and protects your personal information.

Last updated: September 7, 2026

Bridge The Digital Divide is committed to protecting the privacy of the individuals we serve. This Privacy Policy explains the kinds of personal information we collect, how we collect and hold it, the purposes for which we use and disclose it, and your rights regarding that information. This policy applies to our website, our training programs, workshops, device repair services, and subscriptions.

By using our services or providing your personal information, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this policy.

1. Kinds of Personal Information We Collect and Hold

Bridge The Digital Divide ("we", "us", "our", or "the entity") collects and holds the following kinds of personal information about the individuals we serve, including students, workshop attendees, device-repair customers, subscription holders, volunteers, staff and website visitors:

  • Identity information — full name, date of birth, year of birth, and ZIP code.
  • Contact information — postal address, email address, and telephone number(s).
  • Demographic information — age range, experience level, language preference, and self-reported socioeconomic indicators used for grant reporting and program eligibility.
  • Enrollment & attendance information — class enrollment, cohort, location, attendance and check-in records, and participation history.
  • Device & repair information — device type, model, issue description, repair history, photos of devices, and customer access credentials used for the repair portal.
  • Financial information — payment method (for subscriptions, refurbished sales and repairs), billing name and address, and transaction records. We do not store full card numbers; payment processing is handled by our payment provider.
  • Survey & feedback information — pre- and post-survey responses, support tickets, and messages you send us.
  • Technical information — IP address, browser type, and basic usage data collected automatically when you visit our website.

2. How We Collect and Hold Personal Information

We collect personal information through the following methods:

  • Directly from you — when you register for a class, check in to a workshop, submit a device for repair, purchase a subscription, complete a survey, or contact us through our forms, by phone, or by email.
  • From authorized representatives — when a family member, carer, or referring organization provides information on your behalf with your consent.
  • Automatically — through cookies and standard server logs when you browse our website or scan a QR code.
  • From third parties — from payment processors, grant partners, and referring community organizations, only where necessary to deliver our services and where permitted by law.

We hold personal information securely in our cloud-based database and affiliated systems. Access is restricted to authorized staff and volunteers who require the information to perform their duties. Sensitive fields such as passwords are stored in hashed form, and files containing personal information are protected by access controls.

3. Purposes for Which We Collect, Hold, Use and Disclose Personal Information

We collect, hold, use and disclose personal information for the following primary purposes:

  • To enroll you in classes, cohorts, and workshops and to record your attendance and progress.
  • To schedule, deliver, and administer our digital skills training, device repair, and tech-support programs.
  • To process payments, issue receipts, and manage subscriptions.
  • To communicate with you about your enrollment, repairs, upcoming events, and program updates.
  • To respond to your support requests and provide customer service through our repair portal.
  • To meet reporting obligations to grant funders and partner organizations (using de-identified or aggregate data wherever possible).
  • To evaluate and improve our programs, services, and website.
  • To comply with our legal, regulatory, and funding obligations.

Where we disclose personal information to grant partners or service providers, we do so only to the extent necessary for those purposes and require recipients to protect the information in accordance with applicable privacy law. We will not use or disclose your personal information for any other purpose without your consent, unless required or permitted by law.

4. How You May Access and Seek Correction of Your Personal Information

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and you may ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date.

To make a request, please contact us using the details in Section 7 below. When you submit a request:

  • We will verify your identity before providing access to or correcting your personal information.
  • We will respond to your request within a reasonable time, generally within 30 days.
  • We will provide access in a form that is easy to understand, unless an exception under applicable privacy law applies (for example, where access would unreasonably affect another person's privacy).
  • If we refuse access or a correction, we will give you our reasons in writing and tell you how you may complain.

You can help keep your information accurate and current by updating your details whenever they change, either through the student or customer portals or by contacting us directly.

5. How You May Complain About a Privacy Breach and How We Handle Complaints

If you believe we have breached your privacy or mishandled your personal information, you may make a complaint. We take privacy complaints seriously and will deal with them promptly and fairly.

To make a privacy complaint:

  • Contact us using the details in Section 7 below, clearly describing the nature of your concern.
  • We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and begin an internal review.
  • We will investigate the matter and provide a written response, generally within 30 days, outlining our findings and any steps we will take to resolve the issue and prevent it from recurring.
  • If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer the matter to the relevant privacy regulator or oversight authority in your jurisdiction, and we will provide you with information on how to do so.

6. Disclosure of Personal Information to Overseas Recipients

We primarily operate within the United States. We may disclose personal information to overseas recipients where it is necessary to provide our services — for example, to cloud hosting providers, payment processors, email and communications platforms, and software vendors that support our operations.

Before disclosing personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient is bound by confidentiality and security obligations consistent with applicable privacy law and this policy. Where we transfer personal information to an overseas recipient, we remain accountable for that information in accordance with this policy.

The countries in which such overseas recipients are likely to be located include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union member states, and India, reflecting the locations of the cloud, software, and communications providers we commonly use. This list is indicative and may change as our service providers change; we will keep this section up to date where it is practicable to specify the relevant countries.
